Marathon Training Update (Week 3 of 16)

Monday: off

Tuesday: off (was supposed to be cross training + strength)

Wednesday: 4m run

Thursday: 4.5m speedwork-ish workout

Friday: 45 min cross train

Saturday: 11.5m

Sunday: 5m + strength

Due to a super busy week at work, I took Monday and Tuesday off. This week, I also did my LR on Saturday, instead of Sunday, and I did a shakeout run yesterday. I’m not sure if it was that run, or the crazy amounts of foam rolling I’ve been doing, but I feel great today! I usually take the day off after a LR (mostly due to scheduling conflicts, but also - laziness), but based on the way I feel right now - I may actually start to do these shakeout runs I hear so much about! I also skipped a yoga session this week, but I’ve been stretching and foam rolling, so I’m kinda okay with skipping it.

Marathon Training Update - Week 2 (of 16): Actual vs. Planned

Monday: off

Tuesday: run 4m + strength session

Wednesday: run 3m (was supposed to be 5 - but I was totally rushed for time!) + pilates

Thursday: strength session + 25 min cross training

Friday: 6m (was supposed to be 5, but I wanted to make up a bit from Wednesday)

Saturday: 60 min cross training + a killer core routine

Sunday: 10m

I had no pain (in my hip or knee) this week - yay! I actually cross trained (and lifted weights, whatttt?) - and managed to get most of my miles in (except for one - which isn’t too bad, right?)

Happy Thankful Things Thursday! Today, I am thankful for:

  • Morning workouts: The gym’s empty - so I can have my pick of prime parking spaces, cardio machines, and weights. I get my workout over and done with, so I can actually make evening plans. I don’t have to dread working out all day - since I got it done while I was still nearly asleep. I don’t do this nearly enough, but I did work out this morning, and I’m thankful for that.
  • Drive through pharmacies: ok, it’s the epitome of lazy. But, being able to drive up to the pharmacy window to get my prescription, instead of going inside where all the sick people are? That’s a great idea.
  • Quality office supplies: I’m a sucker for a good pen, highlighter, notebook, or pack of post-it notes, and have been known to (obviously) bring my favorites from home, or hoard those I like at work. Writing with a good pen always makes your handwriting look its best, right?

True Confession Tuesday:

I am an awful present-giver. Not an awful shopper, but I always, always ruin the surprise of giving presents. I love carefully, hand selecting presents, and wrapping them - but once they’re ready to be given, I can’t wait, and usually give them early.

Case in point? The husband’s birthday isn’t until Thursday, but I already made him open two gifts already.

I am the worst.

This week in food (January 16):

  • Monday: Drip Beef (jn the crock pot)
  • Tuesday: Trader Joe’s lobster ravioli
  • Wednesday: Lettuce wraps with Monday’s leftovers
  • Thursday: The husband’s birthday - so we’ll go out to eat. Place is still TBD. 
  • Friday: The family (his + my parents) are coming over to celebrate, so I’m thinking The Pioneer Woman’s lasagna? Or maybe this Cavatappi with Fontina and Fall Vegetables?

Yes - it’s a busy week filled with The Pioneer Woman. Not much going on in the kitchen!

Marathon Training Update - Week 1 (of 16): Actual vs. Planned

Monday: 2.5m (was supposed to be 4m)

Tuesday: off

Wednesday: 1.5m (making up the distance I missed on Monday) + yoga (was supposed to be 6m)

Thursday: off (was supposed to be xtrain + strength)

Friday: 3m + yoga

Saturday: 3m (finishing up the remaining 6m on Wednesday that I didn’t do).

Sunday: 10m

This week was all about getting my workouts done - albeit in intervals, rather than as planned. On last Sunday’s LR, my knee and hip started acting off, and it carried over into Monday - where I cut the run short to make certain I wasn’t doing any irreversible damage to my body. (Turns out it’s an angry IT band - manifesting itself at the top [my hip] and the bottom [my knee]. I’m cleared to run, cautiously, and am to ice and foam roll whenever possible.) I skipped the cross training session on Thursday, since the husband was working late, and laying on the couch, finishing a library book was too good to pass up. So - I got my total miles (all 20 of ‘em) and went to yoga twice (which my body totally needed). Now I just need to add some xtraining.
