Daily Gratitude Updates:

June 27, 2011: I am grateful for Icy Hot. I had this weird knot on the outside of my thigh, and even though I foam rolled and used The Stick (capitalization since it’s a proper noun, and not for emphasis), the knot still remained. I put Icy Hot on before bedtime, and it felt fine (yay!) the next day. Total win.

June 28, 2011: My thrifty ways make me so extremely grateful for Groupons, Living Social deals, Pop Sugar exclusives, Gilt City offers, etc. While I probably stock up on things (and experiences!) I probably wouldn’t normally buy, some deals are amazing - like today’s $15 for $35 worth of Say Yes To Carrots (one of my favorite face brands).

June 29, 2011: I am grateful for moments of personal clarity. I had two important realizations today where I found out (or remembered) that 1 - drinking wine does not count as empty calories and 2 - I really, really like to grocery shop (but hate it when I’m in a hurry or being rushed).

Ten Things Thursday

  1. I am overwhelmingly, ridiculously excited for my wedding. And my honeymoon. And to be married to the sweetest, blondest person ever. It seems like all wedding things are making me giddy - like today, when I emailed my baker to confirm a few things, and he responded “Melissa, it’s all good… in the hood.” Hah!
  2. I only cried at work once this week. Yay! (Although, that was in front of senior management and HR. Oops.)
  3. This long weekend (4 days!) will be filled with projects (wedding and home improvement related). Favors will be crafted, a new lawnmower will be purchased, and we’ll buy some sort of quasi-kiddie pool to replace our legitimate pool which imploded last weekend.
  4. There are certain foods I hate. Not dislike. Hate. I cannot stomach the thought of putting olives, pickles, or eggplant in my mouth.
  5. I am already behind on my summer reading list. I blame this on the large number of magazines I subscribe to - and on that note, how did I ever start receiving Women’s Day anyway?
  6. I am narrowing down my Spring 2012 marathon plans - and strongly leaning towards Big Sur, which may be nice since I know I can’t run it fast and hopefully the views can/will distract me for 26.2?
  7. I talked myself out of getting a mini cupcake at Starbucks today. Actually, I talked myself out of going to Starbucks all together. I have been regretting this decision for hours.
  8. I’m loving making risque fashion choices for work. To try to make my work day a bit more cheerful, I’m pulling out all the stops (and hoping the corporate dress code/fashion police do not notice) - including hot pink nail polish with sparkles, big hoop earrings, and really messy hair.
  9. Operation eBay is in effect. I have already taken pictures of my stuff (Coach bags, Juicy Couture sunglasses, Sevens and Rock and Rebublic jeans) and I will post them this weekend. I just need to stop being lazy.
  10. I’m a bit (ok, extremely) jealous of my friends in Ottawa today. Real life Wills and Kate? Hope you guys take lots of pics!

I am *that* coworker today. I’m using my ‘I (heart) Running’ Sigg water bottle as a foam roller/the stick today at work. For some reason I’m having thigh/IT band issues (like six inches above my knee on the outside of my leg), and I’m massaging out the knot with my water bottle.

Oh well, it’s helping me get through the work day, right?

Daily gratitude updates:

June 23, 2011: I am grateful for an amazing day spent with my mom and sister. My mom loves taking her birthday off from work, and this year my sister and I took off as well. We started the day off with bagels and mimosas and then went to my favorite spa ever - where we had wine, bamboo massages, steam treatments (in personal steam pods!), and spent time lounging in a brine room (which I love and now want to create on in my house!). We went out for a late lunch and honestly, I cannot say I’ve been that relaxed in a long time.

June 24, 2011: I am grateful for the the gluteal sounds my Scottish Terrier makes when he’s happy. He smiles (with his bottom teeth only!) and this clucking/clicking, machine gun noise is made - from deep in his throat. I think it’s his way of laughing and I love it!

June 25, 2011: I am grateful for my future father in law - and his handy ways. Since our above ground pool decided to explode (implode?) on Friday, we needed to repair our fence - both to keep the puppies contained and to appease the neighbors - and take down our pool. If it wasn’t for him, the fiance and I would probably have a crooked fence and would have used a chain saw for the pool - instead of a crowbar. The future father in law helped the fiance put up the fence and take down the pool in less than two hours. Yay!

Tonight I went for a run.

I ran because:

  • I didn’t run this morning (sleeping in sounded so much better)
  • I had an incredibly stressful day at work (my boss was working on a project I’ve been slaving over, and when I asked if I should be involved, he told me I can view it when it’s saved on the public access drive on our system.)
  • I had an incredibly stressful afternoon at home (due to all the rain we’ve been having, my above ground pool burst and flooded water [and pieces of fence] into my neighbor’s yard - who’s now threatening lawsuits and homeowner’s insurance claims)
  • I spent the afternoon brainstorming (slash gchatting) about Spring 2012 marathons, and how can you not run after talking about running 26.2?
  • It was on the agenda
  • The fiance wanted to get Wegman’s $6 meals for dinner and I felt like I should make us work for ‘em
  • I needed (and wanted!) to

“I will need to go the farmers market weekly and eat healthy. (Yuck!)” —My mom when discussing the fact her dress for my wedding will be in this week. She did preface this statement by saying she was excited, but obviously upset that cheetos and wine should no longer be part of her diet.
